April Ross
April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball stars to capture medals at many Olympics. Alix Klineman is a new Olympian and will join the team in Tokyo. Ross aims to earn an Olympic first gold medal however, she also hopes to earn greater. And at the age of 39, it could be her final chance to accomplish this. However, she's convinced that top prizes are in reach. Ross declared on NBC Boston: "If we do our best and even if we just play well I believe we can win the gold medal." So I'm going to take the chance too. Ross, who was born 1982, and grew up in Costa Mesa California with her siblings and parents, started playing athletics at Newport Harbor High School. Apart from competing in various sports, Ross also attended Newport Harbor High School. In her time as a college athlete she was also a participant in indoor volleyball and track. She stood out however during this game. In her own biography, during high school she was a volleyball player as an outside hitter (middle blocker) and the setter (outside blocker). Thanks to her hard work she was named in 1999 as the Gatorade Champion of Champions Circle of Champions Player of the Year. Her volleyball skills also won her the Orange County Athlete of the Year award in the year 2000. Ross and Klineman have been continuing to play since 2017. The reality is that Ross was an important player on the beach volleyball circuit before joining the duo. She has been able to win multiple events, one of which was with an iconic volleyball player. From 2007 until 2013, she was partnered by Jennifer Kessy, who is the coach she is currently. Kessy was Ross's co-coach at the 2009 World Championships. The pair eventually picked up an Olympic silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The Misty Maytreanor legendary team and Kerri Jennings took home the gold. Ross Jennings was May-Treanor's replacement after she had retired. In 2016, the duo took bronze at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a Trojans player for the USC during her college days, years before becoming a professional. Her career was a success in the NCAA tournament. As a freshmen in 2000, her play earned her the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Young Player of the Year awards. In addition, she helped her Trojans to reach the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a heartbreaking personal loss during her sophomore year however she was able to return as an All-American. Through her final two seasons with the Trojans, she helped them win consecutive championships. Ross was an excellent volleyball player and won the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the best female volleyball player in the NCAA. Ross played international relations as a major at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, never had the chance to watch her daughter become an international beach volleyball star. Ross's mom died from cancer of the breast in 2001. Ross had just become sophomore at USC. Her mother is still close to her heart. Margie has always been a source of inspiration to her at and off the beaches.
